Tim Walsh

He has managed key administrative functions at top research universities and specializes in financial and strategic planning, administrative and technology-enabled efficiency, and intercollegiate athletics.

Tim has assisted leading public and private universities, research institutions, and academic health centers in optimizing their strategic and financial outcomes and enhancing their administrative efficiency. As a senior administrator and project leader, he has helped numerous clients develop innovative budgeting and resource acquisition strategies, optimize administrative operations, and champion the implementation of new technology solutions.

Throughout his career, Tim has worked with institutional leaders and teams to enable the organizational structures and behavioral changes that are necessary for sustained transformation. He has re-imagined business processes and software-enabled process workflows to help his clients unlock efficiencies and achieve administrative excellence. As an experienced financial officer, he has helped his clients pursue financial optimization and build platforms for growth aligned with strategic priorities.

Prior to rejoining Huron as a managing director focused in the education strategy and operations business, Tim spent over a decade as vice president of finance and treasurer at Duke University. In this role, he oversaw the university’s $3.1 billion annual budget and $15 billion balance sheet, along with more than 400 staff members across a wide range of functions, including finance, treasury, procurement, post-award research administration, training, retail, real estate, stores and trademark licensing, postal operations, administrative systems, research costing and compliance, auxiliaries finance, alumni and development records, corporate risk management, capital budgeting, debt management, international business support, disbursements and the controller’s functions. He also served various accounting and financial roles at Tulane University and the University of Notre Dame before joining Duke.

Tim holds a Master of Business Administration from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame. He is also a certified public accountant (CPA).

Over the years, Tim has frequented panels, forums and speaking events, presenting regularly at annual conferences for the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).
