Princeton University's Office of Research and Project Administration Transitions to Huron Grants and Agreements

In Brief

2-Minute Read

Princeton University’s Office of Research and Project Administration successfully replaced its legacy sponsored-research proposal database with Huron Grants and Agreements. Princeton’s new platform, Princeton ERA, assists researchers and research administrators with proposal development, submission and agreement management, including subaward initiations and modifications.

Recognizing its system was outdated and no longer under support, Princeton went through an exhaustive set of functional requirements and surveyed its community of researchers and research administrators to determine the best fit for its new research administration software. Princeton ultimately collaborated with Huron to launch its new grants and agreements software on time in August 2020. Even in the face of challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, testing, training, launch and production support all successfully occurred in a virtual environment.

Since go-live, Princeton ERA has received widespread positive feedback from Princeton’s user community, reduced administrative burden for faculty and staff, streamlined the sponsored-research work environment and ensured Princeton remains compliant in its research activities. Users have reported that the system is intuitive and provides easy-to-use system-to-system functionality. In the first four months, 428 proposals were submitted and 134 agreements were activated in the new system.

The Princeton ERA project team continues to focus on post-go-live system and process improvements, consolidating feedback from users and system data. Princeton and Huron continue to collaborate on a system upgrade and a potential second phase for Princeton ERA.
